Listening and Learning

Each month the BURY2GETHER Elected Forum Group will publish updates detailing our ongoing work to improve SEND services.

Alongside various meetings and events shown in our poster, we are delighted to welcome two new volunteers into the B2G team.

This month our volunteer comments come From our Vice Chair, Jane Bernhardt....

" I joined as a volunteer last September. I genuinely did not know beforehand just how much B2G did to represent parents and carers with the Council, Health & Social Services. I now sit as a B2G parent/carer rep on several boards/steering groups where, like our other parent/carer reps, I get to put across the parent/carer view from a position of lived experience. I have an autistic teenager so I feel that I can help represent the experience of being a parent to a neurodiverse child. Change can and does happen. It's time-consuming, sometimes frustrating but can also be very positive. I feel very privileged to have the opportunity on a regular basis to speak directly to the people who make decisions that impact our families."

'When I joined as a volunteer last year, I had little appreciation for the amount of work that the B2G representatives do behind the scenes. I am so proud to be part of that effort now and to work with a leadership team who are keen engage all of us in a variety of opportunities to learn and develop new skills, as well as passionately support our SEND community. As our volunteers continue to grow in numbers, so does our capacity and I am delighted to share with you our inaugural "behind the scenes" update. We plan to issue this once a month.'
